World of Grooves: A Broken Record Collection
October 6, 2022 - November 28, 2022
Artwork by Denver Miller III
Step into The Midway’s newest exhibition – a nostalgic world that commemorates the most beloved musical icons of our time, a World of Grooves.
Opening October 6th, 2022, this black and white collection of broken records is a series of art crafted entirely out of vinyl records by Las Vegas artist, Denver Miller III. In his debut exhibition, Miller presents a variety of portraits, symbols and NFT (Non-Fungible Token) derivatives that inform the range of his smaller collections.
Over a decade of dedication to this project has led Miller to develop a technique that allows him to break the records he loves and turn them into seamless silhouettes of iconic musicians and singers. The idea to replace the paint brush with this analog media was born out of Miller’s obsession for music and DJing. As he pursued careers in music and graphic design, Miller continued to explore methods of cutting and shaping LPs.
The attention to detail needed to create these timeless art pieces leaves no room for shortcuts. Over the years, Miller acquired the skills for his creative process of illustrating, designing the cut patterns, cutting the albums, piecing the puzzle together and polishing the work. In 2018, Miller was given an opportunity to create his first large format piece to show at Feature’s (Sneaker Boutique) store inside the Wynn Las Vegas – “Stardust”, a portrait of the late David Bowie. Now, with his first solo exhibition underway, he has his sights set on creating even larger works and installations for some of his favorite events and music festivals.
Miller’s mission is to create art that allows people to visually experience the music they love in ways they never have before. This is the passion project of a music lover, for music lovers – and it’s just the beginning.
