Octaural is a multi-sensory installation consisting of eight speaker panels illuminated with projections. This work takes inspiration from the concept of binaural beats, where two sine waves slightly offset from each other create a third illusionary beat perceived by the mind. Binaural beats have been known to reduce stress and anxiety. It also can promote relaxation, concentration, and meditative states. Octaural takes the concept of the binaural beat to an eight-channel speaker system. Octaural encourages the experiencer to take a moment of intention to feel their mind and body. In what areas are we holding tension? How are our stress levels? How can we better care for ourselves?
